OZARK…Mr. Arthur G. Villarreal (1Sgt. United States Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died Wednesday afternoon, April 5, 2023, at his home. He was 76.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at 10:00 A.M. May 8, 2023, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Villarreal was born August 19, 1946, in Houston, Texas and has lived in Ozark since 1985. He was dedicated to the United States Army, where he served honorably, and retired with the rank of 1st Sergeant. During his time in the Army, he wore many hats including instructor, teacher, mechanic, and diplomat. Mr. Villarreal served in the Vietnam War and earned the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Palm Ribbon. Included in his numerous commendations were the National Defense Medal with one Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a proud volunteer of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation as a Life Member, where he served as a leader, mentor, and ambassador supporting veterans. Mr. Villarreal enjoyed working with the JROTC Program at Carroll High School as a volunteer and instructor. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Loretto Catholic Church at Ft. Rucker, Alabama (now Fort Novosel) and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Villarreal was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Villarreal and Ramona Garcia Villarreal; his beloved wife, Debby Donna Rose Dieter Villarreal; daughter-in-law, DeLana Villarreal; several brothers and sisters.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Arty Villarreal and Andrew (Katie); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
