MANVEL, TEXAS…Charles William (Bill) Jones (83) died suddenly on Wednesday, April 5, 2020, of cerebrovascular disease while residing at the Orchard Park Assisted Living facility in Brazoria County, Manvel, Texas. He was immediately cremated thereafter due to Covid restrictions at that time. His ashes will be laid to rest next to his parents during a graveside service at 3:00 on October 7, 2023, at the Mount Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery in Dale County, Echo, Alabama. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements. The service will be officiated by cousin, Blake Smith. There will be a family dinner at a restaurant in Dothan, Alabama after the service.
Bill, the only child of William Washington Jones and Minnie Maebelle Smith Jones, was born on February 4, 1937, in Seminole County, Donalsonville, Georgia. He graduated from Frostproof High School in 1954. He graduated from Florida State University School of Education (Bachelor of Science) in 1958 where he was a Kappa Sigma. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army.
His careers were mostly in procurement and sales while living in North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and Texas. He worked for the Department of Agriculture, Ellington Air Force Base, NASA Johnson Space Center, the prefab home business after obtaining his real estate license, the grocery industry as store manager, Lockheed Martin, and, in his later years, Business Enterprises of Texas where he operated a vending machine business.
He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the Church of Christ. Bill was a fan of sports, mainly boxing and football, and political news. He enjoyed family gatherings. Bill was a devoted son, cousin, and friend. He will be remembered as a hard-worker and a loving father and grandfather.
Formerly married to Betty Jean Brown Jones Mann and Sandra Marie Ferguson Jones, Bill is predeceased by his third wife, Anita Marie Hutcherson Jones, and two infant daughters. He is survived by daughter, Cheryl Lynne Jones Townsend (Bobby) of Houston, Texas; daughter, Becky Anne Jones McGoldrick (Robert) of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter, Tammy Marie Jones Farris (Casey) of Huntsville, Alabama; son, Charles William (Chuck) Jones (Maggie) of Austin, Texas; and former wife, Sandra Marie Ferguson Jones of Madison, Alabama. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kathleen, Elizabeth, and Matthew McGoldrick; and William, Lily, Preston, Ansley Joy, and Haley Rose Farris.
