Clyde Mobley

ENTERPRISE…Mr. Clyde W. Mobley (Master Sergeant, Retired, United States Army), a resident of Enterprise (formerly of Ozark), died early Monday morning, February 12, 2024, in Enterprise at the age of 90.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ozark with Bishop Michael Walker officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. Visitation for family and friends will be from  1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the church.

            Clyde Wilbur Mobley was born October 9, 1933, in Wheeler County, known today as Twin Cities (Summit City), Georgia. He graduated from Summit City High School, and was a long-time resident of Fort Rucker, Ozark and Enterprise, Alabama.

             Clyde was drafted in March 1954 in the U.S. Army as a Radio Operator with initial duty at Camp Polk, Louisiana. He served as an Electronic Instrument Repairer, and with further military education, he later became a Helicopter Repairer earning promotions up to Aircraft Quality Control Supervisor. Clyde faithfully served his country for 31 years, 6 months, and retired in September 1985 as a Master Sergeant from Army Aviation. His military service included assignments to the Commonwealth of Virginia, France, Germany, Vietnam (Two, 12-month tours in 1966 and 1669), South Korea, Georgia, and Alabama. He earned the following military awards: the National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Mechanic Badge, Overseas Service Bar (4 tours), Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal, Civilian Action Honor Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm (2d Award), Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), M14 Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badge. His campaigns: Republic of Vietnam Counteroffensive II and III, TET Counteroffensive (Summer-Fall of 1969 and Winter-Spring of 1970).

          After US Army retirement, Clyde attended George C. Wallace Community College, worked numerous part-time jobs within the community and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives and new places.

          He accepted the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, and our Heavenly Father as his Lord and Savior with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Vidalia, Georgia. He continued his faithful service in Ozark, and later in Enterprise, Alabama where he was a High Priest.

           Clyde married Earline Mixon on December 4, 1954, and remained happily married for 66 years, until her death in October 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Blanch (Harrison) Mobley, brothers Clifton and Samuel, son-in-law Michael Wray, granddaughter Angelique, and great grandson Darien. His memories will forever be cherished by four remaining siblings, Cletus, Ronald, Joseph and Larry; in-laws Grady Mixon, Jr. and Elizabeth Mixon, Barbara Jean Mixon; six children, Wade (Elaine) Mobley, Wayne Mobley, Ricky (Deborah) Mobley, Kathleen Wray, Kenneth (Antoinette), Jessica (Christopher) Hurley; grandchildren: Eric (Melanie), Winnana (Denny), Joseph (Teresa), William (Taylor), Wayne Jr., Adam, Crystal (Lawrence), Lance (Kitzia), Jasmine, Brittani (Dustin), Emily, Zachary, Katelyn, Cody, and Ashlyn; great grandchildren Colin, Lauren, Devon, Isabel, Joseph, Ashley, McKenzie, McKayla, Landon, Karter, Ethan, Elijah, Greyson, and Micah.
