Don Salt joined his Lord and Savior in his eternal home on Monday, January 30, 2023. We imagine the first questions he asked upon his arrival were, “When is the next meal?” and “Where is it being served?” Though Don was not a big man, he enjoyed eating three square meals a day. His coworkers and family often teased him for planning the next meal before he even finished the current one. Mealtime for Don was a way to connect and spend quality time with his family and friends.
Don grew up in a family that enjoyed camping and spending time together. His love for God’s creation lasted throughout his life. Don joined Boy Scouts as a child, earning his Eagle Scout award at 17. As an adult he worked with the Scouts, serving both Pack 10 and Troop 38 for over 20 years. He was awarded scouting's top award for adult leaders in 2008.
Continuing his work with youth, Don served as support staff and coach for his son's sports and led youth ministry for New Covenant Christian Fellowship for 35 years.
By nature, Don was a teacher, spending time to share and impart what he knew to help others. The biggest thing Don wanted to share was the love of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which he demonstrated by selflessly seeding into people’s lives. Don memorized much scripture and could recall it by reference.
Don knew how to love and would show it by spending time with you. If you ever shared a meal with him, know he loved you.
Don was 64 years old and retired from Alabama Power after 41 years.
