NEWTON…. Mrs. Edith Mae Maxwell Steiding, a resident of Newton, died early Saturday morning, January 23, 2021 in a Dothan hospital. She was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Clayton “Bimbo” Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that all attendees honor COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks and use social distancing.
Mrs. Steiding was born December 9, 1934 in Huntington, West Virginia and moved to Newton in 1966. She was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother to her family. Mrs. Steiding was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Steiding; an infant child and a son, Steve Maxwell; her parents, Clayton and Julia Maxwell; two sisters, Wilma Sizemore, Wilda Brooks; three brothers, Clayton Maxwell, Raymond Lowe, and Buck Maxwell.
Surviving relatives include her two daughters, Linda Liles (Kenneth Atwood), Kinsey and Gloria Watson (Heavy), Newton; her son, Robert Lee Steiding (Janet), Wicksburg; grandchildren, Chris Watson (Georgia), Jason Watson (Kim), Michael Liles, Scotty Pentley (Jessica), and Alley; great-grandchildren, Lily (Logan), Emma, Roy, Hollie, Mason, Allison, and Logan; special friends, Robert Creamer, Kathy Seay, and Donald & Tammy.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Watson, Jason Watson, Michael Liles, Roy Watson, Mason Liles, Logan Jacobs, and Robert Creamer.
