Fred Thomason

Fred McAdory Thomason was welcomed into the Kingdom of God on December 24, 2018. He was a current resident of Ozark, Alabama and former resident of Houston, TX; Jakarta, Indonesia; Cairo, Egypt and Rio de Janerio, Brazil. Fred was born June 27, 1935 to Agnes and Doug Thomason and spent his childhood in Ozark, where he graduated from Dale County High School in 1954. He enjoyed playing football where he earned the award of most valuable player and also earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He learned his business acumen at age eleven when he owned his own paper route delivering the Dothan Eagle to 350 customers throughout his high school years. Fred graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn University with a degree in Industrial Management and went on to work for DuPont, Ingram, and McDermott as operations manager over during his professional career. He ended his career by consulting off shore in East Africa. His love and devotion to Auburn University came from generations before him and continued until his death.

Fred served as a deacon in the Ozark Presbyterian Church when he returned to Ozark in 2014 as well as an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Rio de Janerio during his stay there. The church has always been a priority in his life.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Joyce Thomason. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanine Thomason Heilman of Boca Raton, Florida and one granddaughter, Meagan Elizabeth Heilman of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two sisters, Agnes Thomason Bartlett of Cockeysville, MD and her children, Dr. Bart Bartlett and his wife Marsha and their children, Kiva and Addison and Dr. Thomasine Bartlett and her daughter Minka ;and Emily Thomason Freeman of Baton Rouge, LA and her husband Dr. Ernest Freeman and their children, Ashley Freeman Gilbreath and her husband Barrett and children, Cates, Rett, and Liza; Brian Thomason Freeman and his wife Katie and son Thomason, and Dr. Katie Freeman Baird and husband Robert Baird and their children, William, Mary Turner and Pearson. He is also survived by his sister in law, Margaret Worley of Charlotte, NC her children, Pam Sargent and her son Brandon Sargent and his wife Lauren and two children Luke and Ethan ; Dana Vines and her husband Michael and three children, Emily, Jonathan, and Katherine

Fred will be remembered as a generous hospitable child of God who cherished his church and the company of family and friends. He was witty and intelligent and a great son, father, brother and grandfather. Above all Fred was eternally grateful to God for the many blessings of his life. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the Ozark Presbyterian Church with Pastor Frank Ellis and Reverend John D. Reese, III officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. Saturday at the church.
