CENTER RIDGE COMMUNITY…. Mr. Gary Julius "Cowboy" Gassett, a resident of the Center Ridge Community, between Ozark and Ariton, died Wednesday evening, February 13, 2019 in a Enterprise hospital. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel with Reverend William Helms and Reverend Roy Turner officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery near Ariton. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Gassett, son of the late Gary Ford "Sam" Gassett and Willie Mae Brogden Gassett was a lifelong resident of Skipperville and Center Ridge Community of Dale County. He served his country in the Alabama National Guard, Ozark Unit and was activated during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Gassett was retired from the Ozark Fire Department as a firefighter. He was founder and member of Holy Faith Mission Church. Mr. Gassett enjoyed playing the guitar, loved his family dearly and always had a garden full of vegetables. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Patterson and a brother, Jack Gassett.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-nine years, Christine Allums Gassett, Ariton; his daughter, Starla Harrell (Pedro), Skipperville; his sister, Joyce Watson Hyatt, Skipperville; five grandchildren, Daniel Patterson (Courtney), Josh Patterson (Christy), Jonah Patterson (Ashley), Amanda Hudson (Jeremy), and Cera Harrell; eleven great-grandchildren, Braxton Sheppard (Lynn), Christopher Dorrill, Cherish Martin, Brennen Patterson, Grayson Patterson, Savannah Patterson, Jordan Patterson, Makayla Patterson, Dearl Patterson, Levi Hudson and Chase Hudson.
