OZARK…Mr. Gerald D. Vagts, a resident of Ozark, died late Friday afternoon, June 17, 2022, in the emergency room of Dale Medical Center. He was 78.
In keeping with the wishes of Mr. Vagts, there are no public services planned at this time. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Ozark Animal Shelter, c/o Healing Hands Animal Hospital, 657 W. Roy Parker Road, Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Vagts, son of the late Lewie Vagts and Irene Ries Vagts, was a native of Detroit, Michigan. He was a veteran of the United States Army and United States Navy having served two years in Vietnam. Mr. Vagts formerly lived in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Brooksville, Florida, South Carolina, Florala, before moving to Ozark in 2016. He enjoyed his time in Florala being close to Lake Jackson where he enjoyed fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was going to yard sales. Mr. Vagts was formerly employed as a Corrections Officer in South Carolina and Florida. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Ozark Chapter #94.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Kathryn Rae Vagts, Ozark; children, Randy Yates (Kim) and Julia Yates, all of Defuniak Springs, FL; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; his fur babies, Peanut, Munchie, Stinky, Patches, and Mr. T.
