NEWTON…Mrs. Ida M. Mazzeo, a resident of Newton, died early Thursday morning, September 1, 2022, in Oakview Manor Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 93.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2022, in Sunset Memorial Park, Midland City, with Reverend Don Clark officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mazzeo, daughter of the late David Goad and Betty Leftwich Goad, was a native of Galax, Virginia and moved to the Wiregrass in 1968. She was formerly employed by the University of Maryland as a secretary in the Food Services Division. After moving to the Wiregrass, she was employed with Dillard’s in Dothan in Loss Prevention and also La-te-da Consignment Shop in Dothan. Mrs. Mazzeo attended Rainbow Meadows Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church, both in Dothan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Mazzeo, Sr. and a daughter, Brenda Mae Grimsley.

Surviving relatives include her son, Larry Burcham (Paula), Newton; four grandchildren, Misty Cherry (Mike), Kristy Barefield (Patrick), Patrick Gartlan, and Aaron Gartlan (Suzanne); five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Cherry, Reese Barefield, Carlton Mueller (Colby), Ashton Robinson (Thomas), and Alexa Grace Mueller; stepson, Michael J. Mazzeo, Jr., LaPlata, Maryland; a son-in-law, George Grimsley, Dothan; step-granddaughter, Madelyn Hinshaw (Matthew).
