DALEVILLE…Mr. James E. “Pops” Gresham (Staff Sergeant, United States Army, Retired) a resident of Daleville, died Monday, July 3, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 66.
Celebration of Life Services, with full military honors, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Daleville Department of Public Safety Shooting Range, 5064 Rucker Blvd., Enterprise, Alabama 36330. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gresham, son of the late Sherman Gresham and Goldie Kitson Gresham, was a native of Jersey County, Illinois. Following high school, he joined the United States Army where he retired after twenty years of service. Mr. Gresham started his police career while in the Army in Clayhatchee, Alabama as a reserve officer. He started in Daleville in December 1993 and worked until he retired March 31, 2013. Mr. Gresham then was employed by the Town of Newton as Police Chief before returning to Daleville in 2020. He was the Firearms Instructor and a SWAT Team member in Daleville. One of his favorite places to be, was the Daleville Department of Public Safety Firing Range.
Surviving relatives his wife, Tina Gresham, Daleville; three daughters, Stephanie Taylor, Nolanville, Texas, Jamie Dunn (Greg), Sitka, Alaska, and Chasity Lorey, Canton, Ohio; a son, Christopher Stout, Canton, Ohio; four sisters, Marie Andrew, Dorothy Hull (Lee), Barbara Stillwell (Jim), and Doris Angle; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
