Janis Friend

Janis Irene Felton Friend, age 78, of Ozark, Alabama passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 2, 1940 in Gary, Indiana to John Babbit Felton and Maltida Mary Martha Fiebelkorn Felton.

Janis was a 1958 graduate of Edison High School in Lake Station, Indiana. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University in 1962. Janis joined the Department of Defense in 1964, as an Army Civilian serving in various parts of the world; Indiana, Florida, Bermuda, Germany, Panama, Bosnia, Fort Huachuca, and Picatinny Arsenal before retiring at Ft. Rucker in 2003.

Janis was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where was actively involved in the Dorcas Guild. As a faithful member, she organized the Christmas Bazaar, Relay for Life team and the church decorating committee. Janis was the Founding Queen Mother of the Ozark Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Janis truly lived life to the fullest through helping others; chatting with friends and family, traveling, and spending time with her grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one daughter Renee (Rusty) Hatton of Slocomb, AL and three grandsons whom brought her great joy, Andrew Christopher, William Patrick, and John Cole. She also leaves one niece, Sindy Barr of Graham, MO, a host of cousins, dear friends and her loyal, fury companion, Dixie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 27, at 10 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ozark, AL with family receiving friends and visitors from 9:00-10:00AM at the church until the time of the funeral.
