OZARK… Mrs. Jean Maddox Watson, a resident of Ozark (formerly of Newton), died early Friday morning, July 16, 2021, at her home. She was 76.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home and from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted.
Mrs. Watson, daughter of the late William Moody Maddox and Gladys Jewel Hagler Maddox, was a native of Ozark. She was a 1963 Graduate of Carroll High School. Mrs. Watson was the former Mayor of the Town of Newton from 2004 until 2008. She was a member and former President of the Newton Ruritan Club and was a member of the VFW Post #3073 Auxiliary. Mrs. Watson owned and operated Newton Bookkeeping, Inc. in Newton and was also an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. She was currently serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Newton Water and Sewer Board. Mrs. Watson was a faithful member of the Newton United Methodist Church where she served as the pianist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joseph Watson, grandson, William Christopher Watson, and a brother, William Kenneth Maddox and his wife, Virginia.
Surviving relatives include one daughter, CJ Watson (Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, Retired), Ozark; three sons, Lennie Watson and wife, Debbie, Newton, William Dennis Watson (Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, Retired) and wife, Pam, Josie, AL, and Wesley Larry Watson and wife, Sherri, Ozark; brother, Rick Maddox (Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, Retired) and wife, Jackie, Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Lynn Hart, Brundidge; grandchildren, Dawn Webb (Joe), Jeanie Brown (Wesley), Jonathan Watson (Tricia), Stephanie Watson (Tyler), Casey Watson (Hali), and James Wesley Watson (Kaylene); six great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
