Jesse Phillips

October 21, 1932 — January 19, 2017

Jesse Eldon Phillips, a resident of Ozark, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his residence with his family at his side. He was 84.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Ewell Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Skipper and Rev. Russell Hagler officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 on Saturday.

Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Ewell Bible Baptist Church or Community Hospice.

Mr. Phillips was born October 21, 1932 in Dale County to Oscar and Minnie Phillips and lived all of his life there. He served in the National Guard and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict where he was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations. He was employed in the aircraft maintenance industry for over 42 years before retiring from DynCorp.

Mr. Phillips was a fifty year veteran of IAM Union serving as President for ten years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Ewell Bible Baptist Church.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Windham) Phillips; five children, Steve Phillips (Pati), Delores Woodham (Jim Jacobs), Zena Clements (Curt), Craig Phillips (Kristie), Amy White (John); grandchildren, Kristi Lucky (Chad), Brooke Grantham, Lauren King (Garrett), Kayla Woodham, Cody and Cara Clements, Maddie, Mary Frances and Cole Phillips, Chase Payne (Jordan), Kros Payne, Will and Tenley White; six great grandchildren; a brother, J.D. Phillips (Pat) and a sister, Annie Laura Doster; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Danny Chalker.
