BERTHA COMMUNITY…Mr. Julian Barefield, a resident of the Bertha Community, died early Thursday morning, November 28, 2024, at his home. He was 73.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2024, in the Bethel Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Worley officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Bertha. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the funeral services in the Fellowship Hall of Bethel Methodist Church.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Echo Fire & E.M.S., 11687 E. Highway 27, Newville, Alabama 36353.

 Mr. Barefield, son of the late William Woodrow Barefield and Margaret Walker Bohannon Barefield, was a native of the Bertha Community. He formerly lived in Dothan before returning to the Bertha Community in 1993. Mr. Barefield retired from Southeast Health in Dothan as a purchasing agent. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era having served in the United States Army. Mr. Barefield was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Some of his favorite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Jones and a brother, Clifford Barefield.

 Surviving relatives include his wife of forty-nine years, Bonnie McGaffey Barefield, Bertha Community; two sons, Christopher William Barefield (Natalie), Echo and Eric Steven Barefield (Rachel), Ozark; four brothers, William Barefield (Kathy), Bertha Community, Mike Barefield (Linda), Ozark, Richard Barefield, Tuscaloosa, and Robert Barefield, Dothan; four grandchildren, Holden Barefield, Triston Barefield, Sarah Margaret Barefield, and Oliver Barefield; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
