OZARK…Mrs. Lillie Jewel Covington Weeks, a resident of Ozark, died late Wednesday evening, December 27, 2023, in Dale Medical Center. She was 66.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2023, in the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Pastor Boyd Fuller officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the church.
Lillie Jewel (Covington) Weeks (known to family and close friends as Jewel), entered this world on July 1, 1957, the daughter of Dan Lane and the late Lois Dean (Robinson) Smith. Jewel attended public schools in Ozark and was a 1977 Graduate of Carroll High School.
Jewel worked several jobs in Ozark and the surrounding area including Ft. Rucker (now Ft. Novosel), before settling into a career working in the dietary department of Ozark Nursing Home, where she worked until she retired.
Jewel loved being home and taking of her family as a loving mother and grandmother. She cherished every opportunity to gather and reminisce with family and share stories about childhood pranks, and her laugh was truly infectious.
Jewel loved the Lord and attended church services as often as work and her health would allow. On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the Lord whispered softly in Jewel’s ear “Come unto Me and Rest”.
Jewel is preceded in death by her mother, one son, Toby Covington, one brother, Millard Covington, one sister, Dorothy McLeod, and stepfather, Walter Smith.
Cherishing memories of Jewel with love are her children, two daughters, Sophia Covington (Benjie) and Felicia Covington; three sons, Jeffery Covington (Priscilla), Willie B. Covington (Christina), an Clyde Covington; siblings, Albert Covington (Elaine), Larry Covington, Lennie McLeod, Danny Lane (Trentino), James Byrd (Elaine), and Mary Thompson (John); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, cousins, her longtime close friend, Jimmy McClinden; brother-in-law, Will Crossly and her precious “fur-baby”, Love Bug. All will miss her dearly.
“I heard the voice of Jesus, say, come unto me and rest; Lay down, my weary one, lay down; They head upon My breast.”
