Marvin Thrasher

April 22, 1945 — February 8, 2019

Mr. Marvin Larry Thrasher, a resident of Ozark, died early Friday morning, February 8, 2019 in a Dothan hospital. He was 73.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 10, 2019 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jim Hill officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Thrasher, son of the late Gordon Carey Thrasher and Myrtie Belle Bone Thrasher, was a native of Gadsden, Alabama and spent his early years in Woodland, Georgia. He formerly lived in Ellaville and Americus, Georgia before moving to Ozark in 1964. Mr. Thrasher began working for the Dothan Police Department in 1967 and later becoming an Alabama State Trooper assigned to Russell County from 1969 to 1981. Following his career in Russell County, he returned to Ozark and began work at Ft. Rucker as a helicopter simulator technician until his retirement. Mr. Thrasher was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Claybank Lodge #908 and Eastern Star Kolb Chapter #468. Mr. Thrasher was a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason and served as Worthy Grand Patron of Alabama from 2012 through 2013. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carey Thrasher.

Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-five years, Shirley Henderson Thrasher, Ozark; his son, Gordon Allen Thrasher (Christine), Hacoda Community, Geneva County; a brother, Lynn Thrasher, Americus, Georgia; a sister, Virginia Self, Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law, Don Henderson, Ozark; four grandchildren, Ashley, Blake, Caleb, and Oraina (Cody); three great-grandchildren, Caden, Shelby, and Jace.
