AUBURN…. Mrs. Mary Anne Cutlip, a resident of Auburn (formerly of Ozark), died early Thursday morning, December 5, 2019 in a Opelika, Alabama hospital. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Hart officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sav-A-Life Ozark, 1889 Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
Mrs. Cutlip, daughter of the late Archie Dowd and Helen Walsak Dowd, was a native of Plainfield, New Jersey. She formerly lived in Chicago and Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Ozark in 1979. Mrs. Cutlip managed Collier Oil Gas Station, Deese Road and Hwy. 231, for many years before retiring. She was best known for being an active volunteer in the Ozark community. Mrs. Cutlip was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir, worked with the youth, Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She also ran the the jail ministry at the Dale County Jail for many years. Mrs. Cutlip was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Spahle.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sharon Spahle and Nancy Branca; five sons, Michael Spahle, Thomas Spahle, Christopher Spahle, Robert Spahle, and Jimmy Marley; two sisters, Patricia Groeninger and Katherine Savage; three brothers, John Dowd, Kenneth Dowd, and James Dowd; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be W.J. Moseley, David Moseley, Garrett Daniels, Bill Compton, Wayne Parker, and Carl Moseley.
