Mavis Jewell Johnson, 66 years old, of Ariton, Alabama passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in Guyton, Georgia.
Mavis loved to cook for her family and friends. Her families fondest memories are her biscuits and gravy. Mavis loved her knick knacks from yard sales and to plunder at second hand stores.
Memorial services and reception will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 19, 2021 in the Ariton Baptist Church 157 Atlantic Street Ariton, Alabama with Jennifer Sippial officiating.
Mavis was born in Ariton on December 9, 1954. She attended Ariton School. Mavis worked as a server at Merle’s and Chism Truckstop, a server and cook at Waffle King and a caregiver of many people over the years.
Mavis is survived by two children James “Jamie” (Lyn Turner) Grider of Ozark, Alabama, Amy (Brent) Rogers of Guyton, Georgia and guardianship of Mary Watson of Ariton, Alabama. Six grandchildren Christopher (Mikayla) Stafford, Amber (Grider) Moe, Hailey (Grider) Moe, Joseph Rogers, Devin Grider and Anna Rogers. One sister Kathy Carr, one nephew Jessie Carr and one niece Jessica Carr and five great nieces. Mavis is preceded in death by her parents Jessie Amos Johnson and Mary Vonicille Jinwright.
