Omie Yvonne "Miss Tootsie" Thomas passed away at her home in Ozark, AL on Monday morning. She had spent the week prior enjoying Thanksgiving with her family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home from 5 to 7P.M. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 2P.M. EST.
Miss Tootsie grew up in Ft Benning, GA, one of the five Ballard Sisters beauties. She was a gymnast and cheerleader. Her 58yr marriage to LTC Lyndel E "Bo" Thomas took her all over the world as an Army Wife. Bo and Tootsie joined the Echo community in 1978.
A wonderful mother and homemaker, Miss Tootsie was known for her creative hostessing and was also an accomplished artist, who studied with Gerry Bosch in Columbus, GA. Some of her watercolors are on display at Lovey's Home Plate on Hwy 36, Ozark. Miss Tootsie taught art lessons and swimming lessons. She treasured her time with the Bethel Methodist Quilting Circle and continued making her beautiful cross-stitch quilts into her 80's.
Miss Tootsie is survived by her loyal dog Blacky 2, Feral the elusive cat; her only child, daughter Lyndajo Thomas and husband David Green, currently living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; by her grandson Andrew Thomas Green, his daughter, Sierra Kelly, and his partner, Monica Lugo of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her "other children" niece Kathy Brady and Mark "Earl" Brady of Miramar Bch, FL; Terry Carley and Sandy Brill of Tallahassee, FL; F. Scott Coulter of Columbus, GA; Darby Britto of Columbus, Ga; her many other loving nieces and nephews who shared their childhood summers with Miss Tootsie in Destin, FL; and their children, Miss Tootsie's grand- and great-nieces and -nephews who were all very special to her.
She is also survived by her 4 unique and wonderful sisters: June Payne of Lovingston, VA; Joan Howard of Miramar Bch, FL; Beth and Woody Coheley of Ohatchee, AL; and Mary Steelman of Marietta, GA.
