ECHO COMMUNITY…Mrs. Nina Lewis Newman, a resident of the Echo Community, died late Friday morning, March 28, 2025, in Dale Medical Center. She was 80.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in Echo Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Newman, daughter of the late Reverend John Inge Lewis and Myrtle Verneuille Lewis, was a native of Mobile, Alabama. The family moved to Echo in 1960 when her father was called to preach at Echo United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Dale County High School and was retired from Wal Mart in Ozark after fifteen years of employment. Mrs. Newman was a member of the Echo Methodist Church. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by a son, Harold Newman, son-in-law, Danny Senn, sister, Lorraine Brown, and brothers, Lynwood Lewis, John Lewis, and Victor Lewis.
Surviving relatives include her husband of sixty years, Lamar Newman, Echo; her children, Margaret Palmore (Daniel Flores), Skipperville, Herschel Newman (Heather), Clopton, and Kimberly Newman, Newton; six sisters, Debbie Barber (Tony), Harriet Simmons (Lamar), Tiny Steele (Duval), all of Bayou La Batre, Alabama, Linda Vaughn, Nelda Brown, both of Mobile, and Marlene Walsingham, Atlanta; six grandchildren, Lee O’Quinn(Angie), Chris O’Quinn (Kim), Shelbie Turner (Chris), Lacey Norsworthy (James), Bridget Newman, and Trevor Senn; six great-grandchildren, Christina O’Quinn, Aubrey O’Quinn, Emily O’Quinn, Jason Turner, Alice Turner, and Waylon Norsworthy.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Herschel Newman, Daniel Flores, James Norsworthy, Chris Turner, Brandon Moore, and Rob Dasinger.
