S. Gene Coots

OZARK… Mr. S. Gene Coots, a resident of Ozark, died late Monday evening, May 17, 2021 in a Dothan hospital. He was 73.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gene Coots, son of the late James William Coots and Agnes Pearl Denney, was a native of Madison, West Virginia. He formerly lived in Chicago, Ft. Benning, Georgia and Indiana before moving to Ozark in 1976. Mr. Coots served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received two Bronze Stars. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jimmy Coots, Jack Coots, Clyde Coots, Bob Coots, and Bill Coots.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Elizabeth Kelly, Carpentersville, IL,  and Christina Coots, San Clemente, CA; a son, Gene Coots, Lombard, IL; his sister, Judy Wise, Ozark; four brothers, Kennard Coots, Ozark, Kenneth Coots, Texas, Charles Coots (Jewel), Mobile, and Danny Coots, Enterprise; two sisters-in-law, Helen Coots, Texas and Ann Coots, WA; seven grandchildren, Brooke, Lexis, Cody, Joseph, Jordyn, Owen, and Lucy; mother of his children, Evelyn Butler Winter, Woodstock, IL.
