OZARK…. Steve Leonard Shelton (MSGT, U.S. Army, Retired) a resident of Ozark, died early Saturday morning, December 22, 2018 in a Dothan hospital. He was 89.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 27, 2018 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark with Father Fred Boni officiating. A Celebration of Life Gathering, with full military rites, will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shelton, son of the late Alonzo Shelton and Almettie Shelton, was a native of Marshall, North Carolina. He lived in various locations in the United States and overseas while serving in the United States Army. Mr. Shelton was retired from the Army having served in World War II, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Following retirement, he was engaged in farming in Philadelphia, MS and then moved to Johnson City, TN before moving to Ozark in 1984. Mr. Shelton formerly owned and operated Shelton's Automotive in Ozark. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Masonic Order. Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille McClintock, a sister, Linda Ann Williams; brothers, Farley, Elzie, Bewley, Atmon, and Harmon; step-sons, Richard Weatherly and Michael Weatherly; mother of step-sons, Mary E. Shelton.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Nancy J. Shelton; son, Steve Leonard Shelton, Jr. (Vicky), Philadelphia, MS; step-daughter, Sara Halstead (Brent), Pensacola, FL; two step-sons, Michael McAfee, Dothan and Robert Weatherly (Kim), Atlanta, GA; a sister, Molly Hensley, Erwin, TN; three brothers, Fremon Shelton (Frances), North Carolina, Glenn Shelton (Audrey), Flag Pond, TN, and Hildon Shelton, Erwin, TN; five grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
