William E. "Bill" Chesser

ARITON…Mr. William E. “Bill” Chesser, a resident of Ariton, died late Saturday afternoon, October 26, 2024, at his home. He was 92.

 Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Brian Presley officiating. Eulogies will be given by his brother, Elza Fowler, and grandson, Bill Emrick, and Mr. John Cawley. The family will receive friends following the graveside. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ariton Volunteer Fire & Rescue, c/o Rhonda Peters, PO Box 183, Ariton, Alabama 36311.

 Mr. Chesser, son of the late Walter Nathaniel Chesser and Una Dell Chesser Fowler, was a native of Elba, Alabama. He received a master’s degree in history and criminal justice from Troy University. Mr. Chesser retired from the State of Alabama as a Probation and Parole Officer after thirty-two years of employment. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Mr. Chesser was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Jean Starling Chesser, grandchildren, Amanda Hardy and Wyatt Hardy, and his sister, Myrtle Chesser Tillery (Hubert). 

 Surviving relatives include his two daughters, Jeanne Emrick and Janice Baxter, both of Ariton; grandson, Bill Emrick (Angie); great-granddaughter, Neviah Leatherwood; grandson-in-law, Eric Green; brother, Elza Fowler (Judy); nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 Serving as active pallbearers will be Eric Green, Jessie Toney, Bubba Fowler, Steve Tillery, Chuck Culverhouse, and Bill Emrick.
